I was criticized the other night for not updating the blog. My excuse is that I only gained internet access yesterday.
Anyway, we are still alive (exhausted but alive). We've been super busy getting our house into a livable state. We spent most of last week painting, cleaning, stripping wallpaper, getting the carpets cleaned, installing a new water heater, cleaning and painting yet some more, and trying to find people to fix the other broken things. We also went back to Raleigh to load out stuff onto a gigantic truck and drove it all out here.
The house we bought was built in 1960 and required a lot of scrubbing and cleaning before we could move in and not feel like we were living in someone else's old, dirty home. It was a huge blessing to be able to spend last week preparing it for our things to be moved in and has come a long way. I think we would both be totally crazy at this point if we had had to try to accomplish everything with furniture in it.
There were several things that needed to be fixed and thankfully much of the work in process ended when the electrician/plumber left today. We now have a working dishwasher (it used to plug into the wall right next to the sink), a dryer that no longer vents into the crawl space, ground faulted outlets in the kitchen and bathroom, oh and we can use the toilets again. On Wed we started to have some unpleasant smells coming from one of the bathrooms that proceeded to get worse as the day went on. We figured the pipes were clogged, but found out today that there were roots growing in them. Thankfully they got them out without having to bring in any major equipment!! We also were able to get the hardwood floors that were under carpet in the dining room refinished and I've managed to get all of the remaining boxes confined to the guest room. I finally feel like we can live in our home and now that the plumbing issue has been handled we can sleep here too. Thanks again to the Five Star Bass Luxury Suites for putting us up for the past two nights.
I will have pictures of our palace once the rooms are cleaned up. Several of them are almost done, but we have to wait until Sunday before we can put furniture in the dining room. For now it is scattered all over and so our other rooms aren't quite what they will be. Until then I will continue to make you wait in anticipation. . .

Our official rating at the Bass Luxury Hotel is 4.5 stars. All of our amenities have 14k gold rather than 24k gold. But with rounding it comes out to 5 stars, so we won't worry about upgrading to 24k gold.
Glad you could stay. We'll try and return the favor sometime.
Come on...I want pictures! :)
So SO So glad that you all are there and able to live in your NEW HOUSE!
Congrats! :) Gi
