Chapter 1: an emptier, fuller life

I've known about the book for a while. One Thousand Gifts. I loved the concept of writing down 1000 gifts. To do this you have look deep and beyond the big things in life. You have to go to the moment by moment events. I started my own list in October and even made notebooks for friends and family to begin their own lists as Christmas gifts.

For some reason I never really considered reading the book. I'm not a reader. I want to be. But whenever I slow down enough to pick a book up and read I fall asleep. I take after my dad I guess :)

Several weeks ago Angie Smith posted that the Bloom Book Club book was going to be One Thousand Gifts. They would read a chapter and have a video discussion with Ann Voskamp (the author). I decided that a book club format might be the accountability I need to actually start and finish a book! Plus I had enough swag bucks to be able to buy the book. I purchased it.

The book is incredible. I'm only two chapters in and can't wait to read the next one!

My favorite quotes

...the first sin of all humanity: the sin of ingratitude.
Adam and Eve are, simply, painfully, ungrateful for what God gave.

Isn't that the catalyst of all my sins?

Our fall was, has always been, and always will be,
that we aren't satisfied in God and what He gives.

We hunger for something more, something other.

There's a reason I am not writing the story and God is.
He knows how it all works out, where it all leads, what it all means.

I don't.

... "Maybe. . . I guess. . .
it's accepting there are things we simply don't understand.
But He does."

Wow, I discovered that book, just last week and was very intrigued by it. :) I'll definitely have to put it on my reading list now that you have recommended it!
